The nature of markets; philosophical discourse by Pieter Bergli

Tranquility
What use is a mind like a flustered beehive to the individual and society as a whole if it cannot find inner peace and share that peace for all

The following pages are philosophical discourse set with a Taoist outlook upon life and the markets that we traders must compete in to succeed or perish.

Life can be cruel and without discipline and training even crueler. The gods maybe unkind, fickle and wanton but we try and we try and in that trying we shape our minds and lead the meek along the paths we forge for a better understanding for posterity.

Trading the currency markets is a grueling task but no more perilous than trading equities, commodities or fixed income markets. Yet what would be the alternative? An UN-examined life? Mediocrity? When Achilles asked his mother whether he should join the Greek fleet to sail for Troy his mother told the young Myrmidon warrior that he either he could live at home to a ripe old age and never feel pain but let time fade his life away; or he could choose to fight and die on the battlefield but his name would live on long after the dust from his bones have scattered into the soil.

Above all the key ingredient for the trader is inner peace of mind; without this achievement the feat of fighting in the markets day by day will eventually take its toll and lead the trader towards a path of self-destruction. The true trader must reflect the wind as the wind roams, fire as the fire burns, water as the water pours and the earth as the earth groans. The way of the trader is a path of the soul to finally empty itself out into complete nothingness and mirror all that it sees and hears and feels around him; to move in the markets in silence and become one with the mood and direction of the moment. Personal emptiness becomes the final tranquility.
